WHY
WORRY?
Margaret
woke to her alarm at 6 AM. She remembered that she had a meeting first
thing and worried about the traffic and whether she would get to work
on time.
At work,
she worried about her daughter doing well in a test at school, whether
any of her colleagues would invite her to join them at lunch, whether
her boss would like the project that was due that day, whether she had
enough gas to get home, whether she could afford a camp her daughter
wanted to attend, whether a new co-worker thought she was attractive,
whether it would rain at her daughter's soccer game that Saturday ...
.
As she
laid her head on her pillow that night, she worried about whether she
would get a good night's sleep ... .
Are you
anything like Margaret? A little bit like her? A whole lot like her?
How many worrisome thoughts occupy your mind in a day? Are you just
an occasional worrier? Or, do your friends tease you about being a "worrywart?"
How much
happiness does worry steal from you every day? How much is it taking
from your health? Experts tell us worry and anxiety is related to the
incidence of heart attacks, strokes, headaches, gastrointestinal problems,
compromised immune systems, and other health issues.
Want to
do something positive to increase your happiness, confidence and health?

Three Wishes
A woman
was out golfing one day when she hit her ball into the woods.
She went into the woods to look for it and found a frog in a trap. The
frog said to her, "If you release me from this trap, I will grant
you three wishes."
The woman freed the frog. The frog said, "Thank you, but I failed
to mention that there was a condition to your wishes - that whatever
you wish for, your husband will get 10 times more, or better!"
The woman said, "That would be okay."
For her first wish, she wanted to be the most beautiful woman in the
world.
The frog warned her, "You do realize that this wish will also make
your husband the most handsome man in the world and women will flock
to him?"
The woman replied, "That will be okay because I will be the most
beautiful woman and he will only have eyes for me."
So, KAZAM - she's the most beautiful woman in the world!
For her second wish, she wanted to be the richest woman in the world.
The frog said, "That will make your husband the richest man in
the world and he will be ten times richer than you."
The woman said, "That will okay because what's mine is his and
what's his is mine."
So, KAZAM she's the richest woman in the world!
The frog then inquired about her third wish, and she answered, "I
would like a very mild heart attack."

A professor
was giving a big test one day to his students. He handed out
all of the tests and went back to his desk to wait. Once the test was
over the students all handed the tests back in. The professor noticed
that
one of the students had attached a $100 bill to his test with a note
saying "A dollar per point." The next class the professor
handed the tests
back out. This student got back his test and $64 change.
Thought
for the Day
Interview
with God
I dreamed
I had an interview with God.
"Come in," God said. "So, you would like to interview
Me?"
"If you have the time," I said.
God smiled and said "My time is eternity. It is enough to do everything.
What questions do you have in mind to ask me?"
I asked,
"What surprises you most about mankind?"
God thought for a few moments and then answered "That they get
bored of being children, are in a rush to grow up, and then long to
be children again.
That they lose their health to make money and then lose their money
to restore their health.
That by thinking anxiously about the future, they forget the present,
such that they live neither for the present nor the future.
That they live as if they will never die, and they die as if they had
never lived"
God placed
my hands in His and we were silent for while. Then I asked,
"As a parent, what are some of life's lessons you want your children
to learn?"
God replied with a smile "To learn that they cannot make anyone
love them. What they can do is to let themselves be loved.
To learn that what is most valuable is not what they have in their lives,
but whom they have in their lives.
To learn that it is not good to compare themselves to others. All will
be judged individually on their own merits, not as a group on a comparison
basis.
To learn that a rich person is not the one who has the most, but is
one who needs the least.
To learn that it only takes a few seconds to open profound wounds in
persons we love, and that it takes many years to heal them.
To learn to forgive by practicing forgiveness. To learn that there are
persons that love them dearly, but simply do not know how to express
or show their feelings.
To learn that money can buy everything but happiness.
To learn that two people can look at the same thing and see it totally
differently.
To learn that a true friend is someone who knows everything about them...
and likes them anyway.
To learn that it is not always enough that they be forgiven by others,
but that they have to forgive themselves."
I sat there
for a while enjoying my visit with God.
I thanked Him for His time and for all that He has done for my family
and me.
He replied, "Anytime. I'm here 24 hours a day. All you have to
do is ask for me, and I'll answer."

DECISION-MAKING
AT WORK
Business
owners and managers deal with many problems: slow sales, product defects,
customer service complaints, ineffective new software, rising health
care costs - whatever.
What Can
You Do?
How can
you go about making decisions that will solve problems? The success
of your solution may depend on the decision-making process you use.
You have several options:
- Tell
and Sell. You think you have a good solution. So, you announce your
decision and sell it to your employees.
- Ask
for Input. You ask employees to make suggestions about the issue.
Using this input, you decide.
- Delegate.
You turn the problem over to an individual, team, or other group and
empower them to make the decision.
- Consensus.
You develop a decision by consensus. This requires a carefully designed,
collaborative effort by you and the appropriate team, affected group
of employees or other stakeholders.
So, how
do you pick an option? (READ
